So, here’s my impression of Farmageddon II:
Offense: Well, there’s not much else to say about Thomas. Even when the blocking is mediocre he’s going to get some yards. Not terribly impressed with the one handing he does with the ball sometimes (like the goal-line hurdle) but that’s just being nitpicky.
Carson: I just don’t know what to say about Coffman. Overall, I was impressed early in the game when he was making nice reads/throws on third down when we needed it to keep drives alive. Ran the option effectively and changed us out of the wrong play several times. The 2nd half, hard to explain off the pick, he just flat out didn’t see the LB drop into coverage. The big throw to Smith was a BADLY thrown ball and I’m impressed Smith dug through the guy to haul it down. I don’t blame Snyder for steering away from passing much. However, it did seem like at certain points in the 2nd half when we were average 10 yards a rush and they flat out couldn’t stop us, we decided to throw at odd times. I can understand when they’re starting to slow the run you need to pass, but we seemed to pass at times where it didn’t make any sense.
Not sure I liked the fake Field goal but hey, keep doing something until they stop it I guess. Someone’s stopped it now so let’s try to not run that for awhile. "To come back and run the same play after doing it a week ago was not the sharpest thing to do," Snyder said. "But nobody ever accused me of being too sharp."
I thought our pass protection had a lot of issues as well. Not sure why we can run block adequately, but can’t pass block for anything. Then again, Coffman rolls out when he sees his shadow so that might seem misleading.
Keep Powell returning kicks!
Defense: I think we’re going to have a long year. I can’t complain too much, though they seemed to be running on us at will in the 2nd half, we still managed to hold them to very few points. They had open receivers a lot that a better QB would terrorize us with. I’m not sure how much of it was us buckling down at critical points or them just screwing up.
Oh yeah, Hartman didn’t get beat on a long TD pass this week! W00t! (of course, that could be because they just didn’t catch it this time)
In the end, the only thing that matters is we’re half-way to a bowl game and 1-0 in the North!
